We recognise that our activity clubs may not suitable for everyone.
This small group is aimed at adults with a learning disability, where a typical club environment is not appropriate, for various reasons. It may be that attendees struggle to interact in larger groups and feel intimidated by them, or it might be the first steps for an isolated or lonely individual into socialising with others.
The aim is for individuals within the group to improve socialisation, gain confidence, have fun, try something new and make friends.
Smaller, more relaxed, calm and informal sessions take place at the Reading Mencap centre and within the community. Activities include craft, baking, cooking, nature walks, socialising, swimming and meeting in town for a coffee.
The group meet on alternate Mondays 12 noon – 2pm (this may change, depending on the activity). Sessions are free however in some cases there may be a small charge attached to the activity, meeting in town for a coffee, for example.
We can also offer one to one meetings within the community, for those individuals intimidated by even small numbers, but would like a gentle introduction into leisure activities and socialisation. Please contact us for more information on this.
