About Our Clubs

Reading Mencap aims to run a wide range of clubs for all ages from pre-school to adulthood and throughout life.  The clubs are held in our Centre at Alexandra Road in the large clubroom and garden.  We run a range of activities as well as outings into the community for leisure activities and some trips further afield.  Activities are suited to the age and ability of the members and include games, arts and crafts, singing and dancing, cooking, drama, parties and barbecues and many more.

Costs of clubs are kept to a minimum to ensure they are accessible to all members and some clubs are free.  Transport is available for some clubs via our own mini-bus.

Most clubs run during term time only, but for further details explore the menu on the left of this page under the Clubs heading.

All our club leaders and helpers are experienced, qualified and trained and some have run our clubs for many years.  All staff and helpers hold current DBS clearance.

Rockwell Collins Give Our Club Room a Facelift!

rockwell collins paint the club room

Our much-loved Club Room has been given a facelift thanks to a £1,000 donation from communications company Rockwell Collins. The money has been used to buy two new sofas and paint for the room - with staff from the Winnersh Triangle-based firm also volunteering to be decorators for the day to give it a lick of paint!

Adults and children with a learning disability use the room at our Alexandra Road headquarters throughout the week for a variety of clubs and activities, including Zumba dancing, soft play, karaoke and crafts.

The clubs enable people with learning disabilities to make friends, have fun and learn new skills while their families get a break from caring. The room is also used four days a week for our popular day activity service Mencap Enables. This service is vital for increasing confidence and independence among adults who are at risk of isolation.painting the club room
