Three cheers for champion fundraiser Paulette!

Three cheers to parent carer, Paulette Francis, who raised a terrific £407.61 for Reading Mencap by running a raffle at her office.

Huge thanks also to her employer, Covéa Insurance, who added a further £143 to the pot, boosting the total to an amazing £550.61!

Paulette, who cares for her 30-year-old daughter who has cerebral palsy and is also registered blind, said she couldn’t have coped without the support of Reading Mencap’s Family Advisers.

She said: “There are so many battles I have to fight to ensure she receives the correct care and benefits from simple things.

“Reading Mencap have been key in supporting me. I couldn’t have coped without their support over the last six years, to the extent I may have had to place my daughter in care or given up my job, which I enjoy.

“They’ve also saved my health and reduced my stress levels no end; they are always at the end of the phone when I or my family need them.”

Family fundraisers, like Paulette, make all the difference to a small charity like ours. As we have to raise all the funds needed to run our services ourselves, a helping hand is much appreciated.

And there are lots of ways – big and small - you can help.

If you fancy challenging yourself in 2018, it’s not too late to sign up for Reading’s Half Marathon on Sunday 18 March. Email fundraisingmanager@readingmencap.org.uk for further details.

You can also save your used postage stamps or donate any unwanted Christmas gifts such as toiletries, which we can use for tombolo’s or raffles.
