AYL crowned Festival of the Year

Are You Listening? organisers Dave Maul and Shane Daunt are celebrating after being awarded Festival of the Year in the Reading Cultural Awards 2018.

Nearly 600 nominations were submitted for the 2018 edition, which culminated in the awards being handed out at the Olympia Ballroom, London Street, Reading.

Are You Listening? is the biggest event in Reading Mencap's fundraising calendar and sees dozens of local performers takeover Reading town centre to play gigs in aid of the charity.

Judges said: "This festival has grown in size, creates really important platforms for young artists and raises a significant amount of money for a local charity."

Nigel Horton-Baker, executive director of Reading UK, organisers of the awards, said: “Arts, culture and heritage are at the heart of what makes Reading such a great place to live, work, visit and do business.

"Our 13 winners are great ambassadors for creativity in our town. These awards celebrate the vibrancy, diversity and depth of the whole cultural scene in Reading.”

The Festival of the Year category was sponsored by Haslams.

Congratulations from everyone at Reading Mencap and a very big thank you to everyone involved in organising the festival, volunteering to make sure it happens and to all the artists for making it so special.

Are You Listening? will return on Saturday 27 April 2019. Visit the AYL website for tickets.
